Send a sample or a voice note
Put a sample or a short voice note on a note or a task. Your collaborator hears what you mean, not only reads it.
Steps
- Open the project page. Use the “Notes” panel, or the “Tasks” panel.
- Drag a sample onto the “New note…” box. For a voice note, press “Record”, speak, and press “Stop”.
- The file shows under the box. Press “Listen” to hear a voice note before it goes. Press the cross to take the file off.
- Type your words and press “Add note”. In the Tasks panel, type in “New task…” and press “Add task”.
You can also put a file on a reply, and on a note or a task that you place on the arrangement.
What you can send
- A sample can be up to 50 MB, in WAV, AIFF, FLAC or MP3. Nearfield sends the file as it is.
- A voice note can be up to 3 minutes.
- You can send up to 500 MB of files in one project. To send more, take back an older file first.
- If your computer does not let Nearfield use the microphone, Nearfield tells you which setting to turn on.
When a file reaches you
The note or task shows the file. Press “Play” to hear it. Your Inbox also shows a row for it.
The file stays in Nearfield until you choose. To use a sample in Live, press “Add to my library”. Nearfield puts a copy in your User Library, in the folder Nearfield › From and the sender’s name. Then it is in Live’s browser. “Show folder” opens that folder.
A voice note stays on the note. It does not go in your library.
The Arrivals page lists the samples sent to you under “Sent with notes”. Open it from “See what's arriving”.
Take a file back
On a file you sent, press “Take back”. Your collaborator’s note then says that you took it back, and the file no longer plays there.
Nothing is removed
- A copy that already reached your collaborator stays on their computer.
- A copy they added to their library stays there.
More about this
Both of you need beta.9 or newer. A collaborator on beta.8 sees the words of the note or task, but not the file.
